Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Linkalyst has no account system and no sign-in. Nothing needs to be registered or recovered.
Where are my reports kept?
On your device, in the app’s own container under Documents/Reports, which you can also open in the Files app. They are not sent to us and we have no way of reading them. When device backup is turned on they are included in it, whether the backup goes to iCloud or to a computer. If you turn on “Sync Reports” in Settings, the report files move to the app’s iCloud Drive folder instead and Apple’s iCloud keeps them in step across your devices; the setting is off by default, and stars and tags stay on each device.
Is the Throughput Test result my internet speed?
No. The Throughput Test carries a bounded synthetic payload over a single TCP connection to a test peer you run yourself on the same network. It is not your Wi-Fi link rate and not the bandwidth your provider sells you — it is one connection over one path at one moment.
What does “jitter” mean here?
The mean absolute difference in RTT between consecutive requests that both received an on-time reply. A timeout breaks the chain rather than being bridged, and no value is shown when there is no such pair. It is not RFC 3550 RTP jitter, and it is not one-way delay variation.
Why does it ask for Location permission?
iOS discloses the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and access point identifier (BSSID) only to apps with that permission, and those two values are useful when diagnosing roaming. It is requested only when you tap “Read Wi-Fi Name” under Network › More Network Info. The app never reads or stores your latitude and longitude.
How do I remove the ads, and how do I restore the purchase?
“Remove Ads” is a one-time App Store purchase and supports Family Sharing; the current price is shown on the App Store. To restore it on another device, open Settings › Remove Ads in the app and choose “Restore Purchases”. Billing and refunds are handled by Apple.
Why does a test show “timed out” rather than a number?
Because no reply arrived in time. Linkalyst marks a request or a run as timed out, failed, cancelled or not ended rather than inventing a result; a refused connection counts as failed, with a note saying so. A value it did not get is shown as a dash, not as zero.
Reporting a problem
A measurement that looks wrong is usually reproducible. Sending the following makes it much faster to work out why.

- 03Which tool, and the exact parameters you used — target, port, protocol, number of requests.
- 04The exported report JSON for the run in question, if you still have it.
Before attaching a report: exported reports are not redacted. Depending on the tool, a report can contain the addresses, host names and URLs you tested, your device model and system version, gateway addresses, certificate details, notes you typed, and the names and TXT records of devices on your local network, which may belong to other people. Where those settings are on, it also contains Wi-Fi names, access point identifiers and IP location details. Remove anything you would rather not send.
