Subnet Calculator

Work out a network from an address and prefix, for IPv4 and IPv6. The calculation runs on your device, and nothing is sent.

Subnet Calculator results for an IPv4 /24 network

What it shows

Enter an address in CIDR form, such as 192.0.2.42/24. Subnet Calculator shows the normalized address, the network, the first and last address, the subnet mask and the total number of addresses. For IPv4 it adds the wildcard mask, the usable host range and its count, and the broadcast address.

Check an address, copy the results

A bar shows where the range lies, and you can enter another address to see whether it falls inside the network. Copy a single value or all the results at once.

Questions

Why are there fewer usable addresses than total addresses?

In most IPv4 subnets the first address identifies the network and the last is the broadcast address, so devices use the addresses in between.

Does it work with IPv6?

Yes. For IPv6 it shows the network, the first and last address and the number of addresses; IPv6 has no broadcast address.

Does it need a connection?

No. It calculates on your device and sends nothing.
